I promised to be an effective, principled leader in the State Senate. I promised to work collaboratively with other legislators to protect and defend our American constitutional rights and to improve our quality of life here in SD.
I gave my word - and I kept it!
As your State Senator, I have ALWAYS...
- Respected and valued the voice and the will of the People
- Protected and defended our US and SD Constitutions
- Honored and celebrated our military and veterans (6 Years on Veterans Affairs Committee, last 4 years as Chair of Senate Military & Veterans Affairs Committee)
- Safeguarded our constitutional right to bear arms (2nd Amendment)
- Supported and advocated for "Quality of Life" issues in Western SD
As your State Legislator, I have PASSED the following Legislation:*
- Balanced SD's budget for eight consecutive years - without hiking taxes (Co-sponsor)
- Promoted active management (logging, beetle and fire control) of our Black Hills National Forest (Author & Prime Sponsor)
- Decreased government bureaucracy by rescinding more than sixty state laws (Author & Prime Sponsor)
- Enacted criminal penalties against using drones for hunting or privacy trespassing in SD (Author & Prime Sponsor)
- Authorized a new National Cemetery for South Dakota's Military Veterans (Co-Sponsor)
- Authorized funding for construction of critical Firefighter and First Responder training facilities

Representing South Dakotans in the SD Senate
In South Dakota, we believe our federal Constitution today is perfectly FINE, and we’ve repeatedly, successfully blocked the rewriting attempts. We know that the constitution – AS WRITTEN – gives states the full and complete power to directly control the Feds. We further believe that enforcement of our current constitution is what’s lacking and what’s needed – so THAT’S what WE support.
So SD citizens must keep their eyes and ears open, and join me along with the Eagle Forum, Ms. Kitty Werthmann, and the majority of SD State Legislators in PROTECTING the Constitution of the United States of America!
